NSW: Two dollar shops inspected in christmas goods blitz

More than two and a half thousand children's table lamps have been recalled .. and
dozens of two dollar shops inspected .. as part of the Department of Fair Trading's Christmas
blitz on electrical goods.

The Chinese-imported Night Light Cartoons lamps .. are shaped in the form of colourful
animal cartoon characters .. including mice .. cats and elephants.

But Fair Trading Minister DIANE BEAMER says they carry the real danger of electrical shock.

Ms BEAMER says inspectors have visited more than 145 stores .. 250 retail outlets and
about 900 market stores .. to check electrical articles and gas appliances on sale before
the busy pre-Christmas shopping period.
