Tas: Man airlifted to hospital from remote Tas bush track
HOBART, Dec 31 AAP - A man has been airlifted from a remote track in Tasmania's central
highlands after becoming ill on a hiking trip.
Emergency authorities received a call from a member of the man's party on a satellite
phone about 5.20pm (AEDT) today requesting medical help, a Tasmania Police spokesman said
today.
The party was at the Pelion Hut on the overland track near Cradle Mountain, north-west of Hobart.
Police said the man had aggravated an existing medical condition and required urgent treatment.
The man was picked up by a rescue helicopter and taken to Launceston Airport, from
where he was transferred to Launceston General Hospital in a stable condition.
